Introductory Blog Post

My name is James Fink and I am a senior at Virginia Tech and I am super excited about taking this course. I do have some experience with wine. I have drank it quite a few times with my parents as well as some alumni from my fraternity. I also did a study abroad for a semester in Spain and they drank A LOT of wine over there. I think the thing that bothers me though is while I enjoy it, the only thing that I really know about it is that I enjoy drier red wines.

I also work in a higher end restaurant back at home where I frequently get asked questions about wine that I honestly do not know the answer to which gets a little embarrassing. As servers, we are required to open wine and serve it the way that Professor Boyer explained in the video. I am not very good at it and I hope that all the practice this semester will help me.

All I really want out of this semester is to learn enough basics about wine to be comfortable talking about it and asking questions and learning more when I don't understand something. I also want to understand wines enough that I can comment on them when I taste them and understand the differences between them.
